For shits and giggles.

How exactly did this expression come about? I understand saying to do something for giggles (for a laugh), but why for shits? You don't go around saying you do things for shits, well then again, maybe you do.

Kinda goes in line with 'I dont give two shits'. huh? Why would you give a single shit, let alone two.

I guess i just don't get how these phrases come about. Its late, i'm tired, and my damn medicine is keeping me awake. :(

Urbandictionary.com agrees with you:

Quite possibly the most annoying and meaningless phrase ever. What does crap or a laugh have to do with anything?

According to the intarwebs, it's a vulgarized form of the phrase "kicks and giggles", which gets defined as "amusement without a serious purpose", as when someone just hangs his head, kicks the ground and giggles.

King of convoluted, I know, but at least it makes some sort of eventual sense.

I dunno where it originated. I've used it for far too long to start caring now anyway...
