A third man has appeared in a South African court, accused of being one of the leaders of the gang.

People desperate for organ transplants reportedly paid up to $120,000.

For $120k I'd sell one.

What are the disadvantages of having one kidney versus 2?

If you lose the one you're left with, you're screwed.

If you're last one goes bad, you're out of luck...

Plus you'll be more prone to toxin accumulation.

I heard it cuts like 10-15 years off your life if you only have one... I dunno how true that is though.

Your body can't filter out as much garbage so this toxic crap hangs around longer and pollutes your endocrine system

That's despicable. Selling organs should be punishable by public flogging.

Its a question of ethics...if we could do it in the US poor people would never get one.

Some things shouldn't be regulated by economics.

Not true, 1 kidney is more than enough to get rid of toxins if it's working right.

This is a good reason to keep all medical records private. I could see gangs getting hold of these for and hitting people for all sorts of body parts for the elite.

Heard it already happens in india and in poorer regions of the world.

Maybe under ideal circumstances and the 1 kidney remains in perfect condition

Hee, I'd love to see someone try tying this argument in with private helath care (ie, if you can pay for it, you should get better treatment)

No surprise that it's happening.

You can not only exercise with 1 kidney, you can do it with none too.

No it doesn't have to be "ideal circumstances" whatever that means. nor does the kidney have to be in perfect condition.

I have to keep reading that over and over again for it to make sense. "Not only can you..."
