For people with 360's and want to use HDMI and optical

So today I got my 360 today and wanted to use the HDMI and Optical at the same time,
and found out that i need a 50$ cable.
Then while googling it i found this
http://www.chadledford.com/?p=50

Which btw you dont need to take a knife or any thing to it, i took the back handle end of a screwdriver and hit it a bit and it slowly opened up; now its not all scratched up and I can put it back together if i want and its almost new

btw i need HDMI and optical because my surround sound receiver doesnt take HDMI

Any chance that your TV has optical audio out?

I don't use it, but my TV takes HDMI and then will allow you to stream the audio from the HDMI signal back out to the receiver.

I remember reading that for many TVs the optical output was just 2-channel stereo instead of the 5.1 channel, but this was a couple of years ago so it might have changed.

From what I've read about cracking open the AV cable set that comes with the 360, it disables HDCP so you can't go that route if you have the HD-DVD drive.

No, the one that its hooked to doesnt even have HDMI i have to use a converter...
the reason i use DVi is because the colors look much better then component.

Plus wouldn't that degrade audio quality

You've already indicated the point is moot, but as Dave said, that depends on your particular TV model's specs.
