In another thread I saw someone talk about how managers go on 'power trips' and do less work, etc.
I worked as a laborer and was eventually promoted to manager at a restaurant once. My district manager said 'no watch how many complaints you and [the other girl being promoted] have lodged against them'. And sure enough, people start complaining about the both of us 'oh they're on a power trip' 'oh they don't do as much anymore' etc. Being on a 'power-trip' is usually just a manager doing their job and telling you something you don't like to hear. Everyone LOVES a manager who doesn't crack down...but they get walked all over and their department/restaurant/whatever goes to crap. And yes, managers do less grunt work, but they usually handle the more important work from a business aspect, it's a more valuable work they do. In my case, I got promoted because I was responsible and worked very hard and was always polite. None of these things changed when I became a manager, but everyone started complaining because I had to be firm at time with people, and also didn't have to do 1/2 of the manual labor I did before.
Just thought I'd say all this, since it seems like 95% of the people here complain about their managers being 'idiots' or 'lazy' or 'on a power-trip', and honestly having been in a managment position, the complainants in this case don't sound like they know what they're talking about.
