For people who know NYC: How do I go from Penn Station to 209 W. Houston Street?

not sure right now, but related to the topic, in NYC isnt it pronounced HOWston street?

well see, theres the thing. have you ever been down broadway? it will get you there, but the traffic might make it take forever. i think he's asking for the most economical way south, not necessarily the most direct.
its like the old adage in die hard 3. the fastest way south is 6th avenue....or the park.

My ex lived on W Houston (it's House Ton) and subways were a bit inconvenient since they really didn't put you close by that location. You can either take the 1 train to Houston and walk about 4 avenues east or take the E or F train and walk about 3 blocks south and 3 avenues east.

the 1 train stops right there, either on the same block, or across the street of where you want to go. lucky for you the 1 also stops at penn station.
it's on W houston street between 6th avenue and 7th avenue (or varick street, it's a transition area).
get a map, it's hard to navigate that area of manhattan cuz it's not in "grid form"

Ohhh....since you're going to angelika, take the V,F to broadway laffeyete, or the 6 to bleeker, or the N, R to prince street they will drop you off no more than a block away from the theater...
Umm.. I am not going to the Angelika. I am going to some place called the Film Forum. 209 W. Houston St.
oh sorry, i read those posts wrong, i read movie house, and immediately thought of angelika because its an awesome theater that shows indie films...anyhoo

the angelica is all the way East one block West of B'way. The Film Forum only has one theater, I think. You can walk right by it and miss it easily. I saw "Reefer Madness" there years ago.

Hmm several ppl in this thread have already told you to take the 1 line downtown to Houston. Here's a subway map.
According to yahoo, 209 West Houston is at the Southwest corner of Houston and Varick Street/7th Ave. Since the 1 train runs down 7th Ave. in most of downtown, the subway station is at the intersection of Houston and 7th ave. I don't think anything more needs to be said.
If I am correct about the theatre you are talking about then you only need to take the 1/9 to Houston. The stop is on the same block. The theatre should be right next to a blues bar in the middle of the south side of the block. Never been in there myself.
