Quick question regarding this: If I were to sign up for this, does this commit me to another year for the Pac Bell service??

be careful... you're limited to 100 messages a month, which is either:

1. someone sending you a txt message from pb's website
2. someone sending you a txt message by email (yournumber@pacbellpcs.com) or something like that
3. you sending someone else a txt message to their phone
4. you sending someone an email from your phone

you can recieve as many messages from OTHER PHONES as you like; the limit only applies to email, web, and sending from your phone. hope this didn't confuse any of you. after 100 messages, you're billed a few cents per message. another thing about getting emails sent- they don't like emails sent in rich text format, aka html- use plain text. otherwise you'll get an error message saying 'this is part of a multi part mime encoded message' and won't decode. so again, use plain text, not html. I also had my friend set up an email alias, so instead of "mypcsphonenumber@pacbellpcs.com", it's a regular email address. really neat feature, but in the two months I've had it, I can't yet justify the ~$5 month it costs regularly.
