For New 7970 Owners - Displayport

Call me paranoid, but once I get a new component, I like to test all its outputs/capabilities to ensure I have a good part. For example, for a PSU, I will test all the connections even if I may not utilize all of them.

I started experimenting with my new Sapphire 7970 yesterday, and my second displayport is not kicking in. The first displayport, the DVI, and the HDMI connections are fine. I don't have a second monitor to test with.

Can someone please confirm that this is a second monitor issue? i.e. the port should kick in if/when I attach a second monitor. If not, I might have to RMA this thing, which sucks given the demand.

Thanks.

Are you using a mini dp to DP adapter? Most DP cables are wonky in this respect and will not send a signal to the monitor -unless- you disconnect / reconnect the cable. After sleeping/hibernation you also have to reconnect sometimes....its pretty annoying. I've noticed this with numerous different GPUs.

I think the best bet really is to get a true mini dp to DP cable, without relying on an adapter. monoprice.com has the best cables, I think.

I don't have a second monitor with DP, but if I unplug my monitor from DP 1 and put it into DP 2 it displays the video and vice versa. I'm using a mini DP to DP cable from monoprice.com

Thanks for the input, guys. I am using the adapter, so that could very well be the issue... TBD. Will give this a shot before I RMA.

No, every port must work in a single monitor configuration. Does anything happen if you click on 'Detect display' in CCC, or if you connect and then reboot? Sometimes hot-plug has problems.

Got the cable today, guys. It is my el-cheapo DP to DP cable that is all messed up. The mDP to DP cable from Monoprice works fine in both mDP ports. Thanks for the input.
