The intel/pro wireless 802.1b or the ibm a/b/g mini-pci card? I heard that the Intel card sometimes doesn't work on the Thinkpad, is this problem solved yet? I don't mind not having G capability since my internet connection is never that fast. But I need to know what works on my R40..and the cheaper the better.

I would say always go with the most options which would in this case be the a/b/g card. You never know what type of WAPs you will be accessing.

I know that, but I am also trying to save some money.

Do you guys think this will work? It's much cheaper and appear to be a IBM part as well.

The IBM b only card costs only $10 less than the a/b/g card.

And IBMs are VERY picky about what mini PCI wireless cards they will accept.

Ahhh...I hope this isn't true. So..the Intel/Pro card can be ruled out now?

I believe so. You may want to confirm what I'm saying, but as I understand it, IBM lappies only accept IBM branded mini PCI cards.

I just broke down and bought an IBM a/b/g card.

BTW, I have an IBM 'b' only mini PCI card sitting in a box here. I pulled it from a brand new R40 I bought a few weeks ago. Wanna buy it?

IBM ThinkPads will only accept mPCI cards sold by IBM. This has been confirmed numerous times at ThinkPads.com. :(

Go with the a/b/g card. It is far more flexible than the b card, and from the whitepapers I have read at Atheros' website (the a/b/g uses an atheros chipset) it uses less power as well.
