For HDTV..

Is it normal to see a lot of grain at 1080i? I'm watching Saving Private Ryan on TNT HD right now and on light colored backgrounds, the picture gets pretty grainy. My TV is a Philips 30" WS 30PW8420

That really depends on the original source, I think. Some programs I've seen show a lot of grain at 1080i, others don't.

I think SPR is kind of 'grainy' to begin with... it's the way it was shot.

I beleive the grain was added later to give it that "old" feel.
