for h67/z68 is display port required for high resolution (is this a chipset issue) ?

For the h67/z68 boards is display port required for resolution greater than 1920/1280 (i.e, 27 and 30 inch monitors) ?

I've been looking a various boards - the full size asrock pro3 looks interesting 'cept that it does not have display port. The micro version has display port but only 1 pci slot (I require 2).

Hence the question.

I would look at the board manual and see what it supports.

A chipset is only as good as its supported. So just because the chipset can do XYZ, unless the maker supports it then don't expect it to be there.

I would think the Z68 boards would support equal/more than the H67 but again read the manual.

EDIT

Looks like most Z68 boards support a max of 1920x1200 without Display port. With display port the max is 2560x1600p on this board

Thanks - not sure where I see on the product link that is sez only the display port support higher resolution. This is very confusing because the hdmi spec suggest it can handle the higher resolution but very few boards seem to have display port (none of the h67).

Yea seems to be a limit through the HDMI. But the Z68 boards with display port should work fine.

Or get a cheap Z68 board and add a cheap video card like a $30 one with display port.

My ASRock Z68 Pro3 outputs 1920x1200 fine through DVI to my HP ZR24w
I'd be worried if it didn't. Even HDMI can handle 1920x1200. ;)

The question is whether or not the IGP and the connection circuitry on the motherboard can handle anything higher. If not, then Z68 boards with Display Port and/or Dual-Link DVI-D are a a waste.

According to the wiki page; the max resolution over a single link hdmi 1.4a connector at 24 bit is 4096×2160.

I wonder if the issue is chipset ? According to asrock manual (for example) the max resolution supported by the mb for hdmi 1.4a is 1920x1200; d-sup max resolution is 2048x1536 and the pro3-m (micro) which has display port; display port max resolution is 2560x1600.

This is really annoying hopefully the intel fellow can comment on what the issue is with hdmi and high resolution.

yea the numbers I gave are from Gigabytes Z68 boards so seems its maybe a intel thing not board maker issue if Asrock and Gigabyte have the same specs in that regard.
