For gaming E3-1225V3 or i5-4570

I have in my possession both of these cpu. Also have a AMD FX-8320 but figure I'd sell it to buy memory with.

The only difference I can gather is the E3-1225v3 has more l3 cache, completable with ECC memory but those wont be used..has a better built in graphics but that wont be used either except in emergency if video card goes out. So looks like the E3-1225 should be it unless someone knows something that I don't know...so what your opinions e3-1225v3 or i5-4570?

How did you acquire both processors? If you for some reason bought both, just return the Xeon. The extra cache would make it faster but not worth the difference. You wouldn't see the difference in a game except in some strange cases.

Actually bought both at a good price and was going to build 2 pc's but decided to keep my 2500k a little longer so going to build 1.

If both of those cpu were bought at same price so the Xeon would be the keeper due to the l3 cache?
 
I think they would be indistinguishable from each other, flip a coin. I'd probably use the Xeon just because it's cool, and the 4570 would be a bit easier to sell.
 
The Xeon doesn't support fast memory speeds, while the 4670 supports over 1600mhz if you OC.

The Xeon consumes a little more power as well, it also doesn't support AVX2 which could be important down the line.

I'd probably go with the 4570. It has higher clock rates and higher turbo speeds, has AVX2, consumes a little bit less power and supports faster memory.

what? both are 3.2/3.6 turbo, both support AVX 2.0 and both have DDR3 1600MHz listed as the fastest officially supported memory. I guess both should easily reach higher speeds if you use regular memory on both, going above 1600MHz doesn't provide much of a boost a few % at most, easily offset by Xeon's 8MB cache provided that Xeon won't clock memory as fast as 4570 but I don't see a reason why it should lag behind in this department, that is if you are using non-ecc memory for both. As for power usage both are listed as 84W TDP parts and depending on the luck of the draw either one can use more power. Extra cache consumes very little power if Xeon are binned differently that's enough to more then offset that extra power consumer.

Hmm..per Intel site they both supports AVX2, DDR3-1333, DDR3-1600 and have same turbo speeds.

Now the Xeon has Intel® Fast Memory Access and Intel® Flex Memory Access which the 4570 doesn't.
 
I didn't take the time to jot down the details, but I'm pretty sure I heard in a Youtube video (might have been a Xeon vs 4670 comparison) that regular desktop motherboards were not "optimized" for Xeon processors. Although if I remember correctly, it didn't make too much of a difference.

Half-truth at best, some shoddy motherboards might not work with a Xeon CPU. It all comes down to BIOS or rather UEFI these days.

good point there..but from what I've got from googling since my i5 and xeon neither does HT and wont be using ECC memory they are pretty much equal.

No they don't, the xeon at hand is slower and doesn't have avx2.
 
Between those two, the Xeon performance wise will be better on ANY circunstance, because the extra 2 MB Cache L2. That's ignoring all the other features you are not going to use (ECC Memory support, professional Drivers for the integrated GPU), but that you can say that adds further value on the Xeon.
