For gaming at 1080 is the gtx 770 enough to max out?

seems that most dont think going up to 2K is that big a deal in looks?
i see that it really takes a toll on the gpu in some games.
1080 does looks really sweet so maybe i am going into a rabbit hole i should not!

Wow crysis 3 is a real challenge to even a titan on those bench tests at 2K!
and even more shocking is that the 780 is a mere 3 fps more than a 770 on this game!
Is crysis 3 a game that should not be used for reference when buying a GPU?
it is very confusing looking at those results of a 770 almost tied with a 780 at 2K.
I am now jumping out of the rabbit hole fast!
