A group of friends I play L4D2 and Farcry with use Skype for voice communication when we get on. It was getting annoying because there are not any push to talk options in Skype, once you doing a conference call with everybody in Skype, it is open mic, so if you cough or talk to someone sitting near your computer, everyone in the conference call hears it.
After searching around I found this really handy app that works perfect, no installation, you just launch the executable, setup your PTT hotkey, a message will pop up in Skype that wants you to allow access to the program, allow it and done. Perfect for the old school games that don't have built in voice communication as well.
After using the built in voice communication for all the Valve source based games to talk to people I play with, it's like hearing them for the first time on Skype.
Note:
There is software being developed called Skype For Power Gamers that is trying to make it into a ventrilo/teamspeak kind of service and with an overlay so you can access it in game without having to alt+tab. Looks interesting:
