A group of friends I play L4D2 and Farcry with use Skype for voice communication when we get on. It was getting annoying because there are not any push to talk options in Skype, once you doing a conference call with everybody in Skype, it is open mic, so if you cough or talk to someone sitting near your computer, everyone in the conference call hears it.

After searching around I found this really handy app that works perfect, no installation, you just launch the executable, setup your PTT hotkey, a message will pop up in Skype that wants you to allow access to the program, allow it and done. Perfect for the old school games that don't have built in voice communication as well.

After using the built in voice communication for all the Valve source based games to talk to people I play with, it's like hearing them for the first time on Skype.

Note:

There is software being developed called Skype For Power Gamers that is trying to make it into a ventrilo/teamspeak kind of service and with an overlay so you can access it in game without having to alt+tab. Looks interesting:

What, nobody found it useful? I guess I'm in the minority that use Skype for PC gaming then.

I use Skype in games, but it's with people I know so I typically have the voice on all the time.

I use Skype when I'm playing with my real life friends. If I'm playing with other people I'll use Vent. I find this interesting, but will have to see if it's implemented well.

We used to use Skype while raiding, but it was only for the "select few", which made me rather dislike using it .

Thanks Gigahertz! I use Skype all the time, and sometimes for games too. This utility will come in handy. Skype is better than ventrillo or teamspeak because you don't have to mess with server info, and you don't have to set up anything. I love it.

Yeah, you are.

No, he is NOT.
