For compatibility is ARM the same as XScale?

There are a lot of programs that I had for my old Compaq iPAQ 3835 which has an Intel Strongarm CPU at 206MHz., I recently bought a Toshiba e740 that has an Intel XScale CPU at 400 MHz. Will my programs work on the XScale? I thought I heard somewhere that the two CPUs generally work with the same programs, like if it works for the ARM then it works for the XScale?
