Man I am glad the my roommate was a hunter and my gf parents have a farm, I had all the steaks, sussages and well any kind of meat from any kind of wild game I could ever want plus lots of veggies. I would have killed myself if I had to eat ramen noodles all the time.

I went through a short ramen phase, but on its own, it's kinda salty and gross. Maybe the recipes make it delicious, though . . .

bumb for JohnCU:
I'm finally gaining the freshman 15 in my senior year

But what can you do? McDonald's sucks ass (for nutrition) and then I read in here the other day about Subway subs that are supposedily healthy have more fat than a Big Mac.

I've been eating a lot of those "weight watchers" frozen dinners, whole wheat sandwiches, cereal, salad, fruit, etc. Trying to cut out soft drinks now. Just trying to find some meals that will leave me full but healthy.

Gotta work out when I get time.

ramen is not health food.

it's cheap, easy, and tasty, but it isn't health food. go buy regular noodles instead of the fried noodles that come in ramen packets.

not all the links are ramen. in fact, the links WITH ramen are recipes that add good good to ramen noodles. the ramen is just the noodles being used as an ingredient, not the whole food itself.

have you ever read the nutritional information on a ramen package? the noodles are fried in oil. that is NOT healthy. the fat content from the label is from the noodles, not the flavor packets (they're just filled with sodium).

if you're interested in eating healthy, use regular pasta.

i have come across some ramen that have surprisingly low fat content. however, those are usually much more expensive than the cheap, fried noodles.

it's for college freshmen. they can't afford anything other than a $0.10 bag of noodles, lol. otherwise, if they want to spend $5 on some egg noodles, they can. The OP was origionated at "college freshmen" not "health nuts who'll spend $$$"

if you actually read the thread that JohnCU was coming from, you would have seen that he was trying to eat healthy.

kudos for making a cheap-eats thread, but don't misinform people claiming that ramen is somehow healthy.

actually, he just wanted something that was "filling and healthy" that was not McDonalds or Soda-type drinks. He wasn't asking for the most healthy ingredients imaginable, per say. I doubt a bag of ramen will be any less healthy than a $5 bag of the "normal" noodles for how little you use in these recipes. You said the noodles themselves are unhealthy because they're "deepfried"?

http://www.answers.com/topic/ramen
A serving of ramen noodle is high in carbohydrates and low in vitamins and minerals, so eating a cup of instant ramen with only an egg as topping for every meal is not a wise choice. Adding a serving of boiled spinach or cabbage to ramen improves its nutritional value.
they just don't have any nutritional value by themselves. nothign too unhealthy here that the OP links won't solve. but w/e, if you think they're unhealthly, that's your opinion. but this thread is not to negotiate health choices of the food recipes listed, it's only a directory
