Greetings,

I'm thinking of getting a DSL connection from Bellsouth and right now they offer a good deal if you order online. Just a few questions:

1) What is the level of difficulty installing the modem (and of course getting it to work)? $200 is what they charge if you want one of their tech reps to help you install it at home w/c is pretty steep to me.
2) Do you guys pay extra depending on the number of pc at home ( I got 2 right now and thinking of buying a laptop in the near future)? Or I shouldn't be bothered by this as long as I'm using a router.
3) Lastly, how's the service?

TIA!!!

1) Can you hook up an answering machine?
2) Buy a wireless router for $25
3) Decent for a big company

1) Easy. Phone line into modem, ethernet from modem to NIC(Don't forget about the filters...). Done. You can install the BS foo-foo software if you want but you don't have to. Access the modem(I assume you're getting a Westell) http://launchmodem

2)No, not unless you want to. They have a networking service that will help with network issues, but you only need it if you truely don't know anything about networks. It costs about 10 bucks more.

3)Crap. However, very few times have I had to deal with customer service because for about 3 years my DSL connection has been perfect. When I have had to call, it has been a nightmare.

Another thing to keep in mind: The Westell actually is a 1 port router. All you need is a switch to hook-up multiple PCs. Enjoy:)
