Well after a few posts back and forth and much research into this, I have found that Symantec is not planning on updating Norton's Utilities 2001 to fix this issue. (Good news is they did patch their latest version to work with Intel Application Accelerator) Intel has already stated on their website, that any fix for this issue will have to come from Symantec. Symantec technical support just passed the ball back with the added statements.
"live support for a specific product continues for 6 months after a new
version is released. When support is discontinued on a product, new
technicians receive no training on it and the old ones are busy
keeping up with solutions to issues in the newer versions.
LiveUpdate update patches are only written for the most recent
version. This is an industry standard that you will find across the
board with all software companies."
The complete thread of the discussion is here.
It is too bad they have adopted this attitude, because they have just lost a loyal customer and someone who recommends their product to every customer to keep their computers happy. I could just concede and buy the newest Norton's Utilities, but I don't think I have it in me to give in to what I consider to be shoddy business practices. And as far as it being industry standards that is just a lie. I hate to say this, but Microsoft sets industry standards and they are still supporting Windows 95 and 98, which are more than six months old.
So if anyone can recommend a reputable product that can replace Norton's Utilities please let me know.
