Hi, when are we going to see another power supply and case roundup?

I'm building a new machine and i need to know which power supply and case you guys recommend. I need a good power supply that is SLI ready, has about 500W or more, dual core ready (for amd), quiete and has cables long enough. I'm worried that I'll get a psu/case where some cables won't reach. I need a quite case with good ventilation, that can hold lots of HDDs and has a HDD fan (for my Western Digital 74gb raptor).

I have all my other HW picked out (exept memory).

For quietness + SLI: Seasonic S-12 500w or 600w, although the cables are a bit shorter than other PSU's AFAIK.

There are no good "case & PSU roundups". I say this because there are so many on the market that it would be darn near impossible to include more than a fraction of those that are available. Best bet is to post your "wish list" on the forums and you'll get a few suggestions. Let's go through your "wish list."

PSU:
SLI ready (needs two 6 pin PCIe connectors)
about 500W or more
dual core AMD ready (all 24 pin with enough juice should suffice)
relatively long cables

My suggestions are the Seasonic S12 series, either the 500W or 600W models. Also, Antec TruePower II series, either 480W or 550W. I believe all four of those units will meet your needs.

Case:
cables must reach (no "upside down" designs like Antec P180, no full towers)
quiet (is that your "quite?")
good ventilation (non-restrictive vents, 120mm fans)
"lots" of internal 3½" drive mounts (is four or five "lots" enough?)
cooling for HDD area (fan in front of internal drive bays)

There are a lot of cases that meet these requirements. Antec Super LAN Boy, SLK3000B. Cooler Master Centurion 5. Lian Li PC-7BW (beware it comes in both 80mm and 120mm fan versions). There are probably easily a few dozen or more other cases with these features, just look for average size (not full tower), not "upside down" and has 120mm fans front and rear.

thanks for the reply. but why not the P-180? is it cause the PSU goes on the bottom?
if that's bad, why do alot of people get that one? Most people who are buying a new PSU and case have my requirements. they are pretty standard these days.

If i were to get the Seasonic 600W and some cables are to short, do they make extenders?

CABLES AND CONNECTORS
There are a total of ten cable sets in the 620W model.
The main ATX cable and the +12V AUX cable are not detachable.
All cables are sleeved up to the first connector, except for the lower half of the AUX cable.
* 22" cable for main 20+4-pin ATX connector
* 22" auxiliary 4+4-pin 12V AUX connector
* 26" cable for monitoring the internal fan speed
*3 x 28" cable with two 4-pin IDE drive connectors and two SATA drive connectors
* 2 x 33" cable with two 4-pin IDE drive connectors, two SATA drive connectors, and one floppy connector
* 2 x 21" 6-pin auxiliary power connector for PCI Express
You get to peek at my homework :)

I personally don't like the layout of the P180. A bunch of little things mostly having to do with the layout and the PSU/drive bay area. People like it because they like the way it looks or how quiet it can be.

Yes you can get ATX extenders. I haven't seen 4 pin 12v extenders but that doesn't mean they don't exist.
