For AllOfMp3.com

there's a button that orders the whole album - i think it's the magic wand looking thing...just mouse over & it'll tell you

Price: $3.07, Size: 149.59 Mb
Pay attention! Don't left-click

To download, right-click the song name or the icon Download and choose Save Target As.. (or Save Link As)

See, that is what I get at the page where you can dl the album after you pay for it. Do they have a "download the entire album" option?

I'm using the AllofMP3 Explorer program, I've been using it for so long I forgot there was another option. You should download Explorer, makes it much easier.

i thought allofmp3 was illegal? or that everyone on here says it is...where are those people?

It is illegal. But its cheaper than waiting for an album to download.

The site operates legally in Russia. If the site operated like it does in the US, it would be illegal. But, there no laws that I know of, that prevent you from buying things from Russia. I can't imagine how the US could hold people accountable from downloading songs they paid for. Its definitely a gray area.

That is what I thought. It is better than outright stealing, and cheaper than Itunes. Even with that, I am in Canada where we cannot be prosecuted for it.

Either way, I spent 65$ there last night 🙂

How is it "better than outright stealing"? It's no different than buying bootleg software/CDs/DVDs. Just because you're paying someone for music doesn't mean you're paying the right person - the artist who should be compensated for creating something.

excuse me for my ignorance, but why is allofmp3.com illegal?

aren't you paying to d/l music? or is it more about where the money is going after it's downloaded?

They operate through some anitquated legal loophole in Russian copyright law. I think it might've had something to do with the way they operate; they're re-encoding the music to distribute, and some how that falls under 'radio' licensing rather than selling music.

Don't fool yourself; if you're in the US (and many other nations), it is illegal. As for the paying for illegal music attack, you're paying for a wide selection, ease of search, decent download speeds, and best of all, your choice of bitrate up to lossless.

Just because you're paying money to someone for something doesn't mean it was theirs to sell. There's a reason this site is based in Russia (the modern Wild, Wild West, as far as law enforcement is concerned). Think about it.

It's a grey area, as far as anyone has been able to determine the site complies with Russian law requiring artists to be paid. It's not the same as the structure we have hee, but it is legal there.

The ethical question is, if it's ethically sound for you to jump on a plane and go to Russia to buy an album because they have a great deal on it, circumventing your own countries rules and provisions for artists, then it's OK for you to buy from allofmp3.

It's probably not OK, but the only way these types of issues will be worked out is when there's a financial impetus to do so. That being said, buy away, you're forcing the issue IMO.

dont artists actually get LESS money from online downloads than from buying the album in stores?

Yes, the point is they are getting some money though, and compared to them getting no money ever, that is a compromise almost. 🙂

because of russian loopholes, they only pay royalties to the songwriter, so the record companies adn the artists are out in the cold
