Okay, isn't interesting in that the USA develops the Bazooka, then the Germans copy, then the Soviets (RPG), yet today the RPG is an outstanding weapon and the USA uses the M-79 grenade launcher??? Typical military.
True, but the LAW is a horrible weapon, it has almost no knockdown power and can't even penetrate the thinest of armor. The LAW is a single shot weapon whereas the RPG can be reused and with multiple rocket variations (AP, HE, ect.)
I guess the whole US arsenal is based on guided missiles and the expense of cheaper weapons. Any tank threat on the batlle field will be dealt with by Dragons and TOWs by the infantry. Larger formations would be taken care of via attack copters carring TOW and Hellfire. Then be havee the heavy metal of the M1s firing DUAPFSDS and HEAT.
I go with that. I just wanted to get more imput on this little "observation" of mine. Scientific American had a great article in their last issue about how war today is more civil than anything else and how machine guns, mines, rocket launchers/grenades, pistols and rifles are the main killing weapons, not tanks or planes, ect.
Small arms account for the majority of battlefield injuries and death. They are cheap and a lot can be fired by alot of untrained/unskilled irregualar or conscripts. Smart bombs and missiles just get the good press. There is a reason they are called "miss"iles.
If you want to do some reading on WWII AT weapons this is a pretty good site. Panzerfaust
OT, I liked the radar set I worked on in the Navy. Three screens to lock in the target, then click the foot pedal to lock in auto track. Pull the trigger and the 5" gun went boom. More fun then a computer game.
