Yeah I heard about their new CD. I admit I've only heard two of their other albums; I like "Bleed American" very much, and I've heard "Futures" but it didn't really strike me as anything great, but it wasn't bad. If this album is anything like "Bleed American" I'll definitely pick it up. Not a bad song on "Bleed", it kicks ass.

they're a great band. it's hard to describe what makes them that way, but i think of it as the subtle overtones in every song. the song 'bleed american' isn't representative of most of their work. futures had its great moments. clarity is a superb album, as well as the stay on my side tonight EP.

I think they topped out w/ Clarity. The stuff before it doesn't get its due credit either. But I did buy the Stay on My Side Tonight EP, and it's a lot better than I was expecting. So this album will definitely be worth a shot after not having bought Futures.

Back before it came out, I preordered Bleed American on vinyl, and it ended up signed when I got it. Was a pretty cool surprise.

I saw them live on my campus. I was not impressed. Neither was the crowd.

great, I have high hopes... was a little disappointed in Futures - well, more than a little disappointed actually.

Static Prevails and Clarity were their best albums by far. They still get a full play through at least once a week.

I've heard the exact same thing from a friend of mine who saw them live recently; a less-than-stellar live show. Hopefully their effort has gone into the album and their tour suffered as a result rather than this be indicative of an overall decline.

Yea, the cd is pretty good, I think it may possibly be better than Futures, and while the Stay On My Side EP was good, it's also better than that. However, it cannot hold a candle to Static Prevails, Clarity, and Bleed American.
Bleed may be my all time favorite production from JEW, not a song I don't love on that album.

"In the middle" was a great song although they do borrow heavily from "The Knack"..

Bump for old thread, sorry. I've been a JEW fan since Static Prevails came out, but I somehow didn't realize this came out in freaking October. Hoping for it for Christmas. If not I'll just buy it, but whatever.

I've enjoyed the two songs I found online so far. I doubt it will be better than Clarity (it's my favorite album of all time, out of all bands), but there isn't a JEW record that I don't like. My order of awesomeness would go like this:

Clarity
Static Prevails
Futures
Bleed American

I'm not including EPs in that obviously. I've seen them live twice, and I think their songs are just too intricate to translate into a perfect live show. However, both times I saw them their raw passion carried over into a good performance, even if Jim missed a note hear or there or there were missing synth/moog tones in certain songs. Not the best live performers, but still enjoyable.
