<< What would you do if your best friend told you he was gay. Would you be ok with it, be able to laugh and joke with him about guys like you used to joke about girls, obviously not fully understanding but at least empathising?

Or would you act ok with it but really be freaked and unable to take it if he started introducing you to his boyfriends?

Or would you say bye bye former best friend?
>>

Is this hypothetical, or did your best friend come out of the closet?

<< He was your best friend before you knew, and nothing about HIM has changed, only YOUR perception of him. >>

Yup. I couldn't agree more.

None of my close friends would ever become gay. Everyone I know or even remotely associate with is straight as an arrow. We may joke about being gay, or act like it in restaurants in three in the morning; but it's just not a good thing.

We probably wouldn't joke about guys like we used to joke about girls but ya I think we would definitly still be best friends.

Use him as your "wingman". Girls flock to gay guys. :D

Also, be sensitive when telling certain jokes.

i don't have a best friend, but if any of my friends told me they were gay i wouldn't care. it's no reason not to be friends with them, male or female. i do have several bi friends, just makes for more interesting conversation ;)

A lot of my friends are gay or lesbian and it doesn't matter to me. They are still the same person I;ve known for years.

Hell, my girlfriend is bi and I sure as hell do not mind one bit.

I'd tell him to get away and never talk to me again. I have no respect for gays, its all a false state of mind i have no idea what they go through to turn to that but its all in there head. It's not something that just happens, some event in their life triggers it, like a way of feeling secure about something else i guess.

Don't sweat it. If you drop a friend because he just said he's gay you're the a-hole, not him.

One of my good friends is gay. I have no problems with it and neither does he. Your topic should not read "For all straight guys...", it should read "For all homophobes..."

If my best friend told me he was gay, I'd quit speaking to him.

'Cause if he's gay, he's been lying to me about a few things.

Namely about his gender.

i'd still remain best friends with him, i dont have a problem with him being gay...

now if some guy in school that i barely knew just came up to me and said he was gay... i'd be like, umm, ok, and you're telling me this because?

<< I would not have a problem with it. Homophobic people are seriously ignorant. :disgust: >>

I totally agree -- I have a friend who doesn't like Elton John just because of his sexual preference. I like my friend, but I'm kind of disgusted by his "homophobia-ness".
I personally don't care whether a person is hetero- or homosexual -- they will get equal treatment from me. I judge by character and personality.

I wouldn't care.
I have friends that are Bisexual and Gay.
Doesn't bother me in the slightest, I don't make "jokes" about guys with him because I'm not attracted to guys.

The only time it would start to be a problem is if he started coming on to me, but that happens in Guy/Girl friendships to. A person being attracted to you when you aren't to them is a sticky situation, no more or less so IMO whether the person is a Gay Guy or a Girl I don't want that way...

Other than that, I really don't care what my friend's sexual preferences are.

I have lots of gay friends, it's not like they sneak into your house at night and try to turn you gay

I'd wouldnt stop being friends with him but he wouldnt be a close friend anymore. What defines someone I hang out with is people who share common interests and like to do similiar things that I do. I choose to not hang out with those who do a lot of drugs because of the type of lifestyle they live, and I would not hang out with a guy who does guys for the same reason. It is something that I dont have in common and would seperate me from them. Just being honest.

I don't see why it would be a problem. I'd honestly feel pretty awkward if he hit on me though.

It doesen't matter. Some of the gay and lesbian people I know are some of the most awesome people on the planet, as far as I'm concerned.
