Harriet Michaels: Do you actually like haggis?
Charlie Mackenzie: No, I think it's repellent in every way. In fact, I think most Scottish cuisine is based on a dare.

id give it a shot though.

It separates the men from the boys, lad. Step aside and let the real men feast! :p

Tried both haggis and black (blood) pudding while in Scotland last year. I don't need to do that again:)

I've never tried it, but we were just talking about getting me some this weekend. My gf had it when she lived in the UK and said it was delicious and I trust her taste buds.

We have a Scottish Restaurant here in town. If you want haggis you have to give them 24 hrs noticed so it can be prepared properly. The owner hails from Scotland so I would hazard a guess as to he knows what he is doing.

I've had it before. It's kind of like chicken livers and shredded pork mixed together. It looks awful but it is completely palatable.

I had it when I was in Scotland about 4 years ago. It wasn't bad, which was completely unexpected given the way it looks.

Never had it, but I don't mind guts for food. I love liver, and I eat the hell out of chicken gizzards, hearts, and livers.

I'd try it in a second, according to Wiki, it sounds like it would be pretty good.

Haggis is a dish containing sheep's 'pluck' (heart, liver and lungs), minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, spices, and salt, mixed with stock, and traditionally simmered in the animal's stomach for approximately three hours.

Haggis somewhat resembles stuffed intestines (pig intestines otherwise known as chitterlings), sausages and savoury puddings of which it is among the largest types. As the 2001 English edition of the Larousse Gastronomique puts it, "Although its description is not immediately appealing, haggis has an excellent nutty texture and delicious savoury flavour".[1]

Most modern commercial haggis is prepared in a casing rather than an actual stomach. There are also meat-free recipes for vegetarians.

The haggis is a traditional Scottish dish memorialised as the national dish of Scotland by Robert Burns' poem Address to a Haggis in 1787. Haggis is traditionally served with "neeps and tatties" (Scots: swede, yellow turnip or rutabaga and potatoes, boiled and mashed separately) and a "dram" (i.e. a glass of Scotch whisky), especially as the main course of a Burns supper. However it is also often eaten with other accompaniments, or served with a whisky-based sauce.

I have had it more than a few times and made it per Jeff Smith's (The Frugal Gourmet) recipe. Like. And if you consider what is in it, it is much easier to eat as haggis than dumped on your plate individually. And it is much like the black sausage served at breakfast in England in taste.

Seriously, I just went on a wiki tangent looking up how in the hell they could refer to that stuff as "pudding".. and I came upon blood pudding, among a few other "meals". Uh... no fucking thanks. Those folks across the pond have a strange desire to digest the most vile of foodstuffs.

Then again, people here eat pork intestines. I refuse to eat chitlins. Hotdogs are about the closest I'll come to that type of food.

I would be *willing* to sample properly prepared beef tongue, if only due to the concept it is another muscle, apparently very very fatty, and well.. high fat beef tends to taste delicious yes?
