Hey
I am thinking about getting this card BUT I just came over from *Rage3D* and it still appears that there are quite a few serious issues with this card ??????
Yet there are many people who sware by this card so I must conclude that there are good and bad 9700s released, what do you think ?

I mean it appears that the card either works great or it dosen't. If you are using the 9700 please explain to me what *exactly* you did to get it working correctly.

Me being an Nvidia dood for the longest time means that when I install my new card it always works. I have never ever had one GeForce not work well and I have had them all.

I tried the ATI-8500 (128m) last year but had to take it back since the game which I was playing alot of at that time was buggy with it.

I know that the second paragraph here might appear a little odd but it certainly seems that way to me...

Please also list your current drivers that you are using too.

Thanks Tp

i got one.

the first one did have a problem it wouldn't enter xp except at 640x480 if you raised it higher it black screened.
i returned it for another and i have found it to be a great card.

i am using the drivers off the disc plus the 6.13.10.6193 in xp i also had it running in 98 but xp does everything i need so i was finally able to rid myself of 98

i listed quite a few games i can play on mine but i don't play a lot of the newer games

here is that list 3rd post down

and all my games (havent tried tribes2 though) are fixed with these drivers i am using now

its just that some people couldnt get a macintosh to work right let alone something more complecated like pc hardware, it is almost like some people go out of their way to make things not work for them. i found a thread on rage3d yesterday were a guy was complaining about his 9700 geting too hot and he had a pic of his case with some obsurd amount of fans all blowing in on the case, even the blowhole on top had the fan blowing in, realy sad stuff. there are a few little bugs here and there but for the most part all of the drivers work just fine, with the latest (2.4) being the best.

If you plan on buying a Radeon 9700 Pro I suggest you migrate to Windows XP. Windows 98 and ME drivers are very stuttery, especially the 2.4 and 2.3 catalysts and there is no fix for it like 3DA for XP. I use Catalyst 2.2's because of their smoothness but alot of new games like NBA Live 2003 and NHL 2003 won't work with them. Also, even after using the Rage3d Tweaker I still have refresh rate problems. There is no RefreshForce utility like there is for XP. Getting a 9700 Pro pretty much forced me to migrate to XP and I will do so in a couple of weeks. I was going to eventually but it's forcing me to do it sooner than later.

Yah sure why not....

I got a radeon 9700pro, all my games, except DX7 ones work fine , the only oddity is (and maybe because i have an old monitor, hitachi SuperScan Elite 751 -circa 199:cool: its only stable with the refresh at 75hz, mabe its because i turned vsync off? i donno so i keep it at 75hz and its all gravy...

Fast card... very fast.... I auctually try to slow it down by getting games and turning crap all the way up (although i only play at 1024x768 ..things get too small) and nothing slows down... things on steriods i tell ya....

Never easy being at the bleeding edge of technology, and new technologies need evolving drivers, so stability is not guarenteed no matter what your name is. I myself like going to the community and addressing/fixing problems., so haveing buggy drivers is not an issue to me, b/c they get fixed.

THe initial production run of 9700s had some problems with AGP 8x boards (as 8x was a reletively new technology in July/Aug) as well as a large amount of game bugs, but they canadians, cant blame em, Iv'e always thought the U.S. would be in trouble if they stopped exporting TP and cheap booze.

Anyways if your the type to buy a card and at the first glitch come here and bitch about "this card is crap blah blah blah" save your breath and get a nvidia card... Then again Nvidia folks have many cats and have been known to drink stuff as hard as tap water... hehe j/k... well execpt for that last point...

oh and i just farted...

/* edit */

forgot i use 2.4 cat drivers.... stable... blarg
