Well its for a buddy that needs a new lappy in the next few days, hes really looking at the acer 5670 with the core duo and the x1400 but he cant find a review and wants to know if the x700 and it are comparable cause the specs on them are quite a bit different

edit:

I also suggest he wait for the x1600 and the 7600go but he says he cant wait that long as he needs to sooner rather than later

not knowing the clocks on the x1400 (but it is just a clocked up x1300, right?):

the x700 probably has the same memory bandwidth and more fillrate, so should be faster

the x700 is 8 pipes and the x1300 is 4. clock speed aside (and the x700 on desktop runs 420mhz anyway) i would figure the x1400 is slower. then again it all depends on the clock speeds.

I've read the X700 is like the 9700/9800s of the past. Probably more powerful than the low end X1300/1400s

if the x700 is anyhting like my friends 9700 then it will have 4 pipes because 4 are disable for the mobile kind.

overclocked my x300 128 beats his 9700 128 ....both mobility ofcourse

The Mobility Radeon 9700 was only a desktop 9600XT, the model number of desktop chips aren't the same as the model number of it's mobility counterparts, actually the Mobility Radeon 9800 PRO was a 8 pixel pipeline model and was not based on the R350, it was based on the R4X0 core. The Mobility X700 is identical to it's desktop brother, the only change is in core and mem speeds, it comes with 8 pixel pipelines (sometimes 4) and 6 vertex shaders, the Mobility X1400 comes only with 4 pixel pipelines and 2 miserable vertex shaders. Today is not a matter of how many pipelines a card have, is about power saving efficiencyand smaller manufacturing process, the mobility Radeon X800 comes with 12 and 16 pixel pipelines flavors, but if you play games with it, it would probably drain your battery, but in 2d mode, is another story.
