I'm not exactly sure what to do. I'm just a working student who wants as little deducted from his pay as possible.

i believe unless you are independent meaning no one claims you as a dependent it makes exactly ZERO difference, they'll bleed you dry

probably 1 unless you are an independent. Although I work for a public university in California and I am tax exempt. Yup, no federal or state tax, so you may also get at least no federal tax deducted.

edit: that is if you work for the school of course. if it's off campus you're probably SOL.

You know what, in the past i've tried very very hard to figure out what SOL stands for, and it just hit me right now 😕

again i think your tax status has alot to do with it
also be careful not to make over 6k a year or nothing will make a diff -- school or not in cali they'll take taxes if you make "too much" like my gf

You are entitled to one dependent if not being claimed by anyone else, such as parents. I am not sure about head of household also, but you can check that out with your filing forms or from IRS homepage.

What you put on your employer's form affects the amount taken out for taxes.

Head of household applies to a taxpayer who has a dependent. Otherwise you are single, married, or married filing separately.

I claimed myself as a dependant when I worked last summer, I am a highschool student living at home . . . no red flags or anything.
