For a big increase in WU... I need you help building a standalone Seti-Boot Disk or similar!

I have access to a BUNCH of computers that come and go pretty fast. I can't install the client on everyone of them, but I could use a boot disk and let them do their thing over night and the weekend.
Any of your guys familiar with the art of building a linux Seti boot disk or something similar? I'd be willing to burn some CD's and boot of them too. Any ideas?

The computers we have right now are:
HP Vectra VLi8
Vectra VL 420

The 420 is the much more powerfull computer so there is more benefit working with that one.

So... anybody willing to help for the good of Anandtech Seti?

Let me see if I intuit this right. You need a standalone boot floppy to run for only portions of the day; that is, the computers will have to be shut down and booted on their normal OSes in the mornings? If you have access to an FTP server, I think I've finally found a second use for KenSeti V3.x. 😀

KenSeti is based on LRP seti. You'll need to get that and install it on a few floppies. You may also need to find a driver for your NIC (LMK if you can't; I can help you there, too, but V2.x required two disks to boot, and wasn't automatic. Poof would be more helpful.) Then, once I get a copy up, you'll need to replace their seti.lrp on the disks (which are, amazingly, MS-DOS formatted) with mine.

Further instructions will be in the seti help file on (whichever) disk. On mine you need to add your user info, your setiq and ftp server addresses, and if the computers have widely diverging IPs you may need to delete part of the IP setup line. You'll also be my first real beta tester, so LMK about any issues that come up.

Okay, I think I've got a copy of V3.0 beta up (edit🙂 and now a copy of V3.1 alpha as well. Let me know which one works for you. 3.1 is supposed to do less networking. I'm not certain I have all my versions - I didn't do good version control - but if that wasn't a stable version of 3.1 I can rebuild a 3.1 floppy from V3.11. I'd send you V3.11, but it isn't really appropriate for you: half its files are retrieved by FTP and it allows useers to login and SSH.

P.S. I didn't get the chance to check out the chips on those machines. If any are below PII-class you'll need to swap in the setiathome program from the gibbsoft versions; this is the i686 static version.

Thanks for all the posts. I am trying to find the best = easiest solution right now. I just don't have a lot of time and I am not familiar with Linux.
If I find something that works without requiring much time and work I can add quite a punch over nights and weekends.
