I'm wondering nowadays, is NUC worth it?

Would I get much better component with Box vs NUC? (Upgradabilty not factoring in)

Really depends on usage. I see NUC as being strong in providing discreet point of service functions in tight spaces, low power draw requirements, or silence. For any application where size is not really a big factor it's very hard to beat a mATX build for price/perfomance ratio.

I was pondering one of these as well. I had a mini-ITX box and although it was OK and handled the job well for gaming, it did get super loud and I didn't game as much as I used to anymore. Having a small, quiet NUC would be something that could take care of 99% of my home or work from home needs.

You can build a nice mini-itx or thin-mini itx for around $400; it will be 7x7; the nuc is 4x4. If you want to game (need a high end gpu) then forget the nuc; if you want to browse or watch video a pentinum or mobile i3 is adequate (no extra gpu). When I priced a mini-thin system it came in at around $275 with a G3258 or G1840; an I3 nuc cost me around $320; the pentinum is a wee bit faster than the mobile i3.
