so, i've never had any trouble with my teeth for 25 years. i go to this dentist today (haven't been for three years) and he tells me i have 14 cavities :(

i almost punched him.

i have a really heathy diet, so im pretty damn pissed. i dont drink soda or coffee, dont eat a lot of sugary things. the only thing that i can think that caused it was this annoying acid reflux that i have (which is really bad).

to make things even better, i just gave my two weeks notice last friday, so i dont know what my healthcare situation is going to be (need to research c.o.b.r.a.).

only good thing is that most of the cavities are minor, so no root canals or anything like that. but still, wtf!!! :|

Ouch...what is that, like 4 trips back just to get them filled?

count your blessing for no root canals. those can be a pain in the A$$!

That's weird!

I am only 20 and didn't have cavities for all my life.. WEnt to the dentist about a year ago and had like 10!!!

The guy thought most of it was bad original fillings and such, I WAS PISSED!

heh...not quite. you can have a cavity in each tooth (32?) and then a cavity between each tooth. so worst case is in the 60's.

Usually, health benefits last until the end of the month. So if you gave notice last Friday, you're screwed in June.

bacteria is/are the plaque. the bacteria metabolize the sugar to produce acid.

I think there's a correlation between the dentists house payments and the number of cavities you have.

Cavities form when certain bacteria living in your mouth digest carbohydrates (like sugar) and produce acidic waste. The acid can eventually erode the enamel covering your teeth.

As for acid reflux I guess the stomach acid has the same effect.

You mentioned very little about how you brush or what you brush with. Could that be the problem?

i feel your pain... i hadn't gone since high school, in almost 8 years... went to the dentist to get my wisdom teeth checked out a month ago (they're coming in), and all four are impacted and need to come out - i need to see a maxillofacial surgeon for that. apart from that, two root canals and four fillings are needed... the four fillings are apparantly for the space between the base of the teeth, and not any cavities in itself (some kinda cavity prevention measure), and the two root canals are for cavities... imma gonna be on drugs for like three months once i start getting all of this fixed =/
