Hi,

I am still using Socket478 with AGP 8x motherboard,

what is the fastest AGP ATI card that i can get? or what is the best solution for me to upgrade? currently my ATI 9800 pro seems dying. anything that will faster than this card for $200US?

Thanks

Besides another 9800p, ATI doesn't have a good card for <$200, at least nothing that can compete with a 6600gt for the same price.

while you have answered what he asked.....the x700pro simply isnt worth it, the 6600gt is the much better card, and im gonna play the "more features" card to go with it 😉

its a no brainer...the 6600gt should be the choice out of that and the x700pro. unless of course you must have ATI if its the last thing you do

The fastest ATI AGP card you can get for less than $200 is a 9800Pro/XT. They haven't made anything AGP that's less than $200 since then. At least since then that is worth it.

Yep it is not worth to upgrade to a 6600GT. It does perform better then your current video but it would be a waste of $200 if you buy it.. You should save up more money and go with a better video card.

The 9800 Pro is still decent. Performance-wise you shouldnt settle for anything less than an X800. You can get it in AGP, but not for $200.

Yeah, if you didn't modify your card you should be able to warranty your card.

If its built by ATI it has a 3 year warranty.

If its another brand it has a 1 year I believe.

Just RMA it. Its not worth it at all to get the 6600gt because its only ~15 percent faster.

oh shit,

i soft mod it from a 9800pro 128mb to 9800xt, did i just void the warranty?

the reason i am looking for an ati agp because i think 9800pro discontinued, and they must give me a new card instead. so for the same value, i need the best agp out of it.

so, did i just void the warranty? can i softmod it back? i can't turn on my pc with this videocard though..

Yes you did void the waranty by softmodding it, and yes you can flash it back if you have the original bios, but you need a working video card to do it, so if you can get any crappy pci card or if you have integrated gfx card you can un-mod it.

but i can't turn on the PC with this burnt videocard.. can the technician in ATI turn it on..

or first of all, will they ever test it before giving me a new one?
I did send a working CPU back to intel(i thought it was dead) but afterall, it was another problem not the cpu. anyways, they just give me a faster one for replacement.

just want to make this clear, if i can't turn on the card.. can they still detect that i've softmod the card?!?!!! very important!

Now that you mention it, if the card is burned out, they probably can't tell if you flashed it or not.

First, that is not avalible in agp. Second, the 6600gt rips it apart. Get a 6600gt, best in the 200 dollar class.

Edit: did't see your 9800xt. Not really anthing to upgrade to for 200 then, 6600gt is not much faster at all than a 9800xt. Not really any reason to upgrade right now if you ask me, but if you do, your going to need to spend at least 300 bucks on a card to see anything.

actually will ATI offer you a refund? anyone tried it before?

refund the price i bought the card?, cuz i bought my 9800pro 128mb for around $180.
I don't mind spending $30 for a newer card, hahaa, i wish!!!
