Hi, I have an FOP38 Socket A cooler, that I am going to be using on an Asus A7V w/ a T-bird 750, and I was wondering how imperative is it to have the silver grill above the Black-label Delta? I bought it off a friend used, and he gave me all the parts, except the screws I need to hold the grill onto the Fan. Here... let me put up some pics :)

I dont really want it on there, unless I need it :)

Also, does the Asus A7V motherboard support the screw HS/F combos that attach a whole lot btter than the clips?
Thx

i think the whole point of a grill is so that you dont accidentally stick your finger in the fan and hurt yourself. it really doesnt affect airflow. air filters on the other hand would affect airflow. id take your fan to the local hardware store and find a screw that fits.

dont know anything about lapping,

but the only 2 heatsink/fans that are screwed in instead of using clips are the alpha pal8045 and swiftech..

here's motherboard compatiblilty for Alpha and Swiftech

<< Will leaving the grill off cause more dust to build up between the fins? >>

Nope! The grill will not help you at all with dust. Now a filter on your intake fans will help.

what he said.. and having more intake case fans than exhaust case fans to create postive pressure (positive or was that negative?? i forget) so that air will be pushed out of your case will also keep your case more dustfree..

or just buy a air purifier to catch all that dust .. :p that's what im doing now till i get a chance to goto home depot and get some air conditioner filters to put inbetween the front bezel and metal frame of my antec sx1030..

I like a grill on the HS b/c this reduces the chance that cords will end up rubbing on the moving fan parts.
