FOP38 and power consumption

Just bought a FOP38 (you don't have to tell me about the noise issues, I'm aware of those 🙂). I've done some reading on the Net, and it seems like all reviews warn me not to connect it to the fan header on the mobo unless I'm sure it can handle the 6800rpm fan.

So, my question is: will it be safe to connect this monster to the fan header on my ABit KT7-RAID? The problem is, if I don't, then the fan header won't detect rpm's, and if it doesn't, the computer won't boot...

i did it to my asus a7v..... now i have a asus a7v with a fried fan header ..... just plug it into your power supply , you will know if the darn fan fails ... trust me on that

is fan header death something that happens instantly or over time? I've got my fop38 on their on my asus a7v and it's been running fine for about a week now..

What temps are you guys getting under full load w/ your FOP38's? I'm getting 43C (mobomonitor) with a Duron 700@1000 (MSI pro2-a)so I think I'm actually around 53C.

Also the noise is not that bad... was expecting more than this. Most of the time I don't notice it unless I try to... then I kind of get tranced out and some form of mania sweeps over me...but very briefly.
