ok now i know there have been previous threads about this. Can you build an adapter to make the fop 38 hold an 80mm fan thereby reducing the noise but hopefully maintaining the over all. Any how to pages? is the product purchaseable. Also, isnt it true that much of the noise is resultant from the air from the fan being strewn everywhere by the heatsink. Ie turbulance?

Thanks all
cain

Someone here had a webpage where they had a step by step guide to making an adaptor out of a cd jewel case.

edit: I couldn't find the thread where the guy posted. Maybe you should edit your post and ask him to post a link.

I haven't seen any for a FOP38 but I am currently making one out of Plexi for my PAL6035, so far it is pretty damn sweet.

Just use some nice strong elastic bands!! :)
I did, and it works great. Just make sure:
1) They're not too wide, the narrower you can get em the more air can get by them
2) They're strong enough, if they're too thin they'll snap(cut on the heatsink) after a little while, but at least you can hear it.

I was sitting at 43C with the 60mm Delta, then after putting on an infinately quieter 80mm with elastic bands, I'm sitting at 39C. Both temps are under load.

sweet, this is exactly the kind of response i was looking for. All i ever hear about for fanadapters is the pelts. Now i know someone else has done it with a fop, looks like its time for me to get to work.

Thanks,
Cain

Regarding the plastic adapter, how did the guy make the side pieces? I understand how he cut the bottom and top ones, but how did he get the side ones? How did he know the size?

Can someone please explain this to me?

4 side pieces:
- 8 cm long on bottom
- 6 cm long on top
- 2 cm high

(that is how i did it)

Thanks man, much appreciated. :)

Now I can do this for my hedgehog.

One last thing, is a dremel necessary? What other tools are there that I can use to help me cut the cd jewel case?
