Im reading these Taisol fans which are pretty cheap btw are great for durons even with out applying any sort of thermal material such as artic silver on it? Not taking price into effect...do they perform equally? Sound levels? I might consider getting the Taisol for another PC.

I have the fop-32, it is an awsome cooler. I haven't used a taisol, so I can't give you a comparison. Fop-32 works for me though

I've never used a FOP-32, but the reviews I've seen have said that the Taisol performs within a degree or two of the FOP and the Alpha, and for less than half the price (and it works wonders on my system) - definitely a good buy in my book!

Are most people using the thermal material that comes with the TAISOL or are they applying artic silver or some other kind of compound... I hear the thermal material on the Taisol is pretty good.

Taisol CEK724002 is the retail heatsink on the duron. Don't get it unless you want retail performance :(
Model CEK733092 might be better, since it's designed for T-bird.

The 724002 (or 724092) is definitely not like my retail Duron HSF. See picture here of 724002

Looking closely at my retail Duron HSF....
1. The clip comes out the side with all the fins ( the clip on the 724002 comes out on the nearly solid sides).
2. Both have 40mm fans, but the heatsink on the Taisol is bigger than the fan in both directions, the retail Heatsink is about the same size as the fan.

the Taisol CEK724002 is the retail heatsink that comes with the duron 700+ ..the duron 600 comes with a much smaller heatsink/fan. i used the cek724002 that came with my retail duron 700 and it's running beautifuly...38C idle at 1 gig. so if you own a retail duron 700 or higher, there's really no need to upgrade unless your processor is a few degrees away from total stability. an aftermarket heatsink will not provide any extra mhz as far as overclocking goes.

Does anyone know how the TAISOL CEK733092 might compare to the Thermaltake Chrome Orb? Both seems to be selling for cheaps, lately, the later going for as little as $8 with free shipping (see the Hot Deals forum).

I'm thinking about overclocking my retail Duron 600 and Asus A7V, but the BIOS claims the CPU is 43 C even with a couple of cheap extra case fans, admittedly after the rig had been running all day.
