FOP 38 Clip Fell Off?!?!?

I just bought a brand new FOP 38 and have encountered a huge problem. While pushong down on the swivel clip side of the heatsink during installation, the swivel part actually popped off. I can put it back on with a fair amount of force but again, it pops off under the sort of stress required to install this CPU on a T-bird.

Has anyone heard of this? Or is this a manufacturers defect that I'll have to return?

Thanks in advance

Happens a lot, try spreading the 2 prongs out a touch before you put it on again. Also I have been seeing a lot of posts from people who remove the fan while instaling. that way you can use a screwdriver to push on the arm of the clip while you guide the end w/your finger. You definatly dont want to use a screwdriver right on the clip,it will come of everytime.

I grabbed a clip off of one of my OEM HS and stuck it on my Fop32-1 after mine broke. Works perfect. Fop32-1 (and Fop38) clips are made like crap.

That is an excellent suggestion, paruhd0x. I had the same thing happen to me tonight on my FOP 38. I took your advice and used a clip from a stock Intel P3 FC-PGA heatsink, and it worked like a charm. Even though I've got a TBird, I guess I still have "Intel Inside" in a way. :p

you g uys have to remember that the clip is also rated at a certain pressure that amd requires. i thinks its at 20lbs of pressure , but dont quote me on that. if you use one with much less pressure you might get warmer tbirds.

Durons/TBirds require 16-24lb's of pressure to ensure the paste is spread out thin, etc.
I can't believe people are actually having trouble installing a heatsink

The same thing happened to my FOP32-1. I just put it back on and spread the prongs.

Use the largerst flat head screw driver you can find one about 10" long
to push on the spring part of the clap.. and take the fan off for the install..
The only problem I have had is to make sure the clip is lined up when you press down as there is not much clearence side to side if you are off..

Thanks everyone for their help except Viperoni.

I can't believe people can actually be so condescending.
