I installed a FOP-32-1 heatsink on a 700 Duron and A7V Asus MB (1002 Bios). On booted up I went in the Bios to monitor the CPU temp. It started around 50 C and went up to 64 C. I shut it off. I tried it a couple of time. The last time I let it run for about 5 minutes and it seemed to stablizes around 61 C. That seems a lot hotter than reviews I have seen on this heatsink. The heat sink is slightly warm to the touch. It appears like the heat sink is not making good contact with the CPU core. The temp probe is located near the CPU core. Using therm. contact film that came on heatsink. I did not really want to mess with the clips since they are suppose to be designed to apply the right pressure to contact the CPU core without cracking or chipping the CPU. Isn't this temp a little hot. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Well I think that thermal contact film is not as good as thermal paste. I am willing to bet that if you use thermal paste that your temp will drop at least 8 degrees.

Scrap off that tape crap and get some arctic silver or quality thermal grease... I noticed the placement of that tape also was not aligned to cover all of the chip. Regardless, it went in the trash and some arctic silver was used instead.

It NOT film and its not crap. I believe that you didn't remove both layers of protective film. Seems that some thermal compound is showing up with two protective layers. The FOP 32-1 should use CHOMERICS T725 Phase Change Thermal Compound which is pink, if it wasn't pink you probably left a layer of protective plastic on there.

Oooops. Oh well, I still didn't like the placement since it only overlapped about half of the chip. Having never seen thermal compound before I assumed it was that tape crap and scraped it. I'm running 47C with a duron 600@908 in a hot house at 83F right now. I read that you need to let that compound heat up by leaving the fan off. This is so it can "phase change". Your temp should drop considerably once that is done.
