this thing is pretty good, (have not overclocked yet, but want to) but i want to know if there is a QUIETER solution that might be just as good. I have AXIA Y 1Ghz athlon on an IWILL kk266r, and i want to overclock to 1.4 or 1.5 Ghz... will this HSF even keep up?

2 Suggestions:

Possibly buy a more efficent heatsink with a slower fan that equals or surpasses of your current setup, like maybe PEP66 w/ Sanyo Denki fan, or taisol CGK 760 stock or upgraded fan of equal loudness as stock.

Cheaper alternative to use what you got right now, and to just slap on a 80mm fan with no adapter just hold it on using the clips, chip to fan or clip to finger gaurd to fan your choice. Panaflo H1a might be a nice setup here, at 32db but a nice low pitched 32db and 39cfm

I have a FOP 32-1 with the YS Techs and I don't think they are loud at all:p

well, i guess that's because i'm speaking relative to my bro's pIII box, which is like a whisper. You can barely tell it's on.

that thing is nothing... make sure it isnt hitting anything (like a cable, or the heatsink) it would maybe not stop the fan, but sure would make a loud noise... i have a pep66 w/ystech, its fine.... i modded it though and place silicon where the screws are, then wrapped it in black tape, this reduced the vibration significantly, making it much quieter!

The Taisol CGK742092 with stock fan is quieter than the FOP32. It will work well with your setup.

I think the YS Tech fans are rated at 27CFM at 35dB. Isn't the 10mm Delta fan on Tiasols 21CFM at 36dB?

Am I missing something???

I don't think a YS Tech fan is really that loud, but the high pitched noise of a 60mm fan gets to me after a while. Using an 80mm fan as GiZZo suggested might make your temps rise a degree or two(or it might drop, who knows?), but the noise is more of a hum than a "weeeeeeee" sound.

The 60x10mm delta fan on the taisol makes a comfortable 36db its low pitched just sounds like alot air moving the ys tech has a annoying whine too it.

About the 80mm on top from my experance i have a FKP-32 which is the thinner eailer version of the fop series, had a sunon 16cfm fan on it and switched it with a PCP&C Silencer, 24-28cfm and it knocked down my temps to 5-7f.

I found my FOP32 too loud as well, so I removed the fan, moved my PSU fan to the inside of the case (blowing into the PSU), and jimmied some tubing to connect the CPU heatsink with the PSU fan.

Result: A Duron 650@866 running with 1 Sunon 80 mm to cool the entire system.

I'm happy, although the P3 500 standing next to it is making a lot of noise, so it'll get the same treatment. :)

The FKP-32 I had had the exact same YS Tech fan the FOP-32 has (36dbA, 26 CFM). So the only difference between FKP and FOP seems to be the heatsink which is a bit larger for the FOP. Anyway, first I thought the YS Tech isn't too loud but after a short time its noise became very annoying. I ended up mounting an 80mm Papst-Sintec fan on it using an 80mm fan grill (used the little metal clips to hold the grill), which worked very well. Another possibility is to use a better 60mm fan like the Papst 612NGM (28 dbA and something around 21 CFM). I use this fan on my Volcano II right now and it also works very well.

gizzo is right. take off the 60mm ys tech fan and slap on an 80mm fan, using the same clips that were holding the 60mm fan. much quieter, and basically equivalent cooling.

what is the best price for one of these quieter fans? also, where can they be obtained for low cost? (tight for cash)

how do you rig it so that your PS fan also cools your CPU? I have an FK 320, if that helps.

I have a FOP32-1 and my wife complained about the noise. She was right. I replaced the fan with a YS Tech Quiet 60 MM form here: Subzero.
It was much quieter and seemed to cool OK.

Hmm, my YS isn't that loud (on a FOP32), but the damn thing vibrates.

Then again, with a tall heatsink, fan stuck on top and tiny contact area it has plenty of leverage.

Anyway, took a piece of pipe wrap (high density foam tubing, split down one side to slip over a pipe, any hardware store) cut a section about 2mm longer than the distance from the fan to my Radeon, cut it in half and wedged it in. Only a couple ounces of pressure on the video card, minimal contact area so it's not building much heat (like a Radeon's hot anyway), but it killed the vibration. No more low rumbling, never noticed much high pitched, but might help with that too.

Should work with any HS/F unit btw, worth a shot for anyone looking to try to cut a little vibration/noise out for a buck's worth of materials.
