Football in HDTV --- OMG!!!

Today I finally got my 47" Panasonic 16:9 HDTV hooked up and am watching the playoffs in HD. All I need is a mini refrigerator and some diapers and I'd never leave the couch. HD is that damn good!! And hell, it only took me a couple hours to find a spot where I can grab a signal. I live in the middle of nowhere, so that part sucked.....

Anybody else out there watching the game right now in HD????

Watching it on my 55" Mitsubishi! 😀

Just wait until Sunday...ABC does a 720p production...better for sports. Just wish my set supported 720p natively.

How much did the tuner run ?

$399 from BestBuy
-10% customer appreciation last week
+tax

Conjur: I know, I wish my set supported 720p natively as well. I'm having a SB party next week and want the highest quality.....

why don't hd tuners come built into the tvs?

If the receiver breaks, you have to rip the TV apart to fix. Also, standards change. Wouldn't you hate to buy a TV with built in tuner and have it become obsolete in a few years??

Because the technology is still evolving quickly (tuners' capabilities/performance is increasing greatly w/each generation) and copy protection crapola hasn't been worked out yet, either.

Mines has a DTV Reciver Built in.

Edit: RCA F38310, Btw I have yet to use the built in reciver still using my old DTV Reciver.

Chiboy, any problems with your F38310?? I have read so many horror stories that I decided to stay away from it. Even though I could have bought it for $1100....

I have had no problmes with it, only thing is even though when it is off it seems like there a freaking fan on so I have to turn of the power that is about it. any ideas?

I'm probably going to get a 47" Panasonic when my tax return comes in.

They're running about $1500 right now.. but I think they're only 480p

Does anyone know what the cheapest 720p set is ?

Hmm...Panasonic used to have a set that supported 720p natively but I don't know if there are any left anymore that do. My next purchase will be a front projector but that's a couple years down the road.

My Panny 47WX42 is 1080i/480p...not sure what the cheapest 720p is. Get it soon though, the SB in 720p will be sweet.

Anybody who owns a 16:9 television, dont watch it in the 4:3 mode at all if possible.

The result is uneven wear of the phosphour in the 3 picture tubes which will show up as a discoloration (most noticable in white images in b/c they appear a dingy brown color instead) either where the black bars were or inside depending on if yours shows black bars or white bars when you watch it in widescreen. I work for a television repair company and we see these all the time. It doesnt take long for this to happen b/c the tubes' emission is so intense in order to project the image.

The companies will not cover this under warranty even tho it is their fault for putting the stupid option on the tv in the first place. Most of the manufacturers are starting to tape a warning on the front of the tv to notify customers.

If this has already happened to your tv, call the manufacturer or the place you bought and raise HELL for their failure to warn you.

I've never watched football on an HDTV set. However, I did see a hockey game in HDTV. Impressive! I felt like I was live in the audience.

Just set the contrast/brightness properly and you're fine. I've had my Mits 55857 for over 2 years and watch quite a bit of 4:3 material (plus DVD and now HD programming) and have NO problems w/uneven phosphor wear.

if by football, you mean drunk girls kissing (it really happend 5 mins ago at my hosue).
and having a mini fridge means drinking

then yes
