Football Fumble rule

Who thinks that fumble in football is complete farce? Everybody knows that the ball changes posession 3-4 times at the bottom of the pile, sometimes you see the guy who wasn't anywhere near the fumble and was on top of the pile come out with the ball.

So why not change the rule and say that any time you fumble the football you lose posession? At least it will be somewhat consistent.

Where's the fun in that? I want to see the dogpile and everyone fighting for the ball.

I think they should have some kind of "pile on" rule. If you jump on a bunch of players when they are wrestling for the fumble the other team gets it.

that's as bad as college basketball's possession arrow. the NFL is already the No Fun League, why make it worse?

Quoted to place emphasis on stupid. I mean did the op actually think about this before posting? Really really really stupid idea.

For the very few times there are scrums where there might be a back and forth exchange at the bottom of the pile (which usually isn't the case, the first player to get a hold of the ball pretty much never loses it, you're just making it up in your own mind that there might be an exchange) there are far more occasions where a player fumbles the ball and they or their team makes a great play to recover the fumble or a defensive player makes a great play to scoop it up and even potentially run the ball for a touch down. If we merely have the possession change then it would most likely be a dead ball situation and very boring in the long run. It would eliminate one of the greatest plays in football - watching a ~350lb nose tackle running for his life with a scooped up fumble and somehow managing to cross the endzone without a heart attack.

of all the things the NFL could change you pick that????????????????????

WTF is wrong with you

1st thing that needs to be changed IMO is the sudden death over time, which is total BS, give each team a possession like college, they way it is now whoever wins the toss basicially wins the game

If you can't hold on to the ball at the bottom of the pile you don't deserve to get posession.

meh the sudden death is good which puts tremendous pressure on both defense and offense

however they should make it to where you really have to get a TD to win though, booting a field goal on 4th down on the 10 yard line is the cheesiest way to win the game in OT IMO.

You can always tell a persons ignorance on football by them using the "receiving team always wins" BS line. In the real world an NFL team that wins the toss and receives wins the game 52% of the time. By comparison in college football the team that wins the toss and elects to go on defense first wins 55% of the time.

Still want to make that lameass argument?

I prefer the college system as it's far more exciting. But the old adage that the NFL system is lopsided is 100% wrong. The college sudden death system is more biased towards the coin flip winner than the NFL system is.
