Fooling a Temp Controlled Fan?

Hey folks... Being that this is my first post I thought I'd at least introduce myself. Name's Lim, I'm a Subaru freak if you can't tell. Hope to be able to contribute to the forum here; I'm a little far from home though!!

Anyway, on to the topic at hand... I scooped up a nice temperature controlled fan (nmb 3612kl-04w-b66) for ten bucks, and I want to utilize the fan's maximum potential. Stats on the fan are as follows: 92mm, .68amp, black/red/white(speed out), and a blue plasticky thermistor on the intake side. The fan will be running with a light filter attached to the intake of my box, so I want to use more RPM than the thermistor will let me, based on the temps it sees. Is there a way around this? I'd really like to get this thing spinning, it's a nice fan! 55 C to the sensor will max out the fan's RPM, and flow 70CFM.

Thanks in advance for any help... let me know if you have any car questions!

no

cuz then that would report a 0 temp, which means your thermo controlled fan would spin the slowest.

I dont think there is much you can do, there great to put on sinks to control the fan speed so it goes according to fan sink temp.

But for control, maybe getting a cheap 3 dollar yate might be your best solution.

You can buy yates @ jab-tech.com
Sidewindercomputers.com
Shoppts.com

There very cheap, and these stores even offer USPS shipping to save you a few dollars.

Welcome! To bypass that thermo jump the wire don't snip. Short across with a screwdriver first to be certain but this I did to a blower type from a Dell last year, worked well.
Don't worry, around here we won't hold your choice of car against you! ;)

If the OP has a turbo'd scooby then its a hoot to drive (I've got a WRX PPP).

Anyway, I would go with what Woodbutcher suggested; jump the thermistor by soldering a wire across the contacts. Either that or buy a Yate Loon, as Aigo suggested. They are dirt cheap to buy and it would save you the hassle of faffing about getting your existing fan to work.

Thanks for the responses guys... unfortunately that Yates unit flows just about half of what I need, so it's out. Good price though, I'd be all over that if I thought I could get by with 40 CFM.

Daw, you've got it... boost is best! That PPP kit is cool beans, Prodrive knows what's up. I'm driving an old '95 Legacy, but she's got a full jap-spec STi swap and a big ol' turbo. Doesn't look like much but it goes like stink!

Just got back from fiddling with the fan... Screwdriver across the 2 posts for the thermistor worked like a charm. I'd tried wrapping a few strands of speaker wire but I guess that wasn't good enough. Thanks again for the help!

Snip and solder then, glad it works.

OK, I confess, I've always wanted a Subaru brat, one of the originals.

Ah, there's the Subaru love! ;)

The Brat is a funky car... I've seen a full STi swapped Brat, 2400lbs + 400hp + AWD = fun!
