I am @ work going about my daily routine. The guy who shares an office with me speaks up about not being able to buy oil for his heater, he needs $200.00. He goes to our boss and asks if he can get an advance on his check and it is approved. I am content with this decision *thinking good he will have heat*. I already know he gets paid the same as me and I also know that he gets a disability check from the Air Force or whatever service he joined. He is always goin out to eat like everyday and hearing him talk about being so broke I assumed he had no money to eat. Lunch time rolls around and here he comes with take out?! I ask him did you get take out today? His reply, Oh yeah I had some food stamps and went to get some lunch.....FOOD STAMPS!?!?!? WTF
Not only does he get a check from the government every month and have a decent but not great income, he also gets food stamps?! What for I dont understand, there are far more needy people out there than he is. Why am I paying this guys or anyone elses car payment, house payment, or to get his new DVD player out of lay-a-way? Someone clue me into why this is going on?

The people in line at the store are always trying to buy cig's with these stamps. I see people driving 2001 expeditions and stuff nice cars, they get out of the car and there they are in a nice leather jacket, $85.00 jeans, $50-100 shirt $100.+ shoes, bumping their $3000 stereo system!? They walk in the store and use FOOD STAMPS!?
 
That depends. If he has children and a wife to support, they are a lot easier to get. If he is single, I have no clue. I live in upstate NY, and there are alot of people around here who get assistance they really do not need, because the guidelines are screwed. For example: My husband makes 13.00 an hour, and he travels, so he gets 640.00 per diem on top of that. He makes over a thousand dollars a week, and my kids would be eligible for medicaid, because they cannot count perdiem. Per diem is non taxable, so it is excluded. He only takes 250.00 a week out of that 640.00 to live on, so there is almost $400 a week of income, that I would not need to claim. Tell me that isn't screwed up?
 
If you have money to out and eat every day you should not be getting a foodstamp. I've eaten out every day last two weeks almost; how do I get some?

Well I know it's different for people on government incomes, but I cannot imagine how he is getting them with two incomes, and living with his parents still. That is just pathetic in my opinion.
 
You can buy them for like 60 cents on the dollar for the people who get them so they can get what they want. Maybe this is what he is doing. It's illegal but that doesn't stop people from selling them.
 
I remembered a few years back when I was servicing supermarkets, watching foodstamps being used to buy lobsters. I was as red as they were going to be after their sauna at the thought that MY hardearned cash was supporting this bad habit---mind you I was making 12.75/hr, wife out on a disability, and looking at 535.00 a month for healthcare.....
 
Stories like this one really burn my butt. I was in a situation a year and a half ago where I literally had no income - my POS husband, whom I was separated from at the time, declined to pay any child support or alimony without a court order (and we were waiting on getting a court date, but that was a few weeks away). I hadn't worked outside the home in 8 years, and honestly was an emotional mess. I had no idea how I was going to find a place to live, much less put food on the table for my son. I found an immediate part-time job that paid a freaking $5.25 an hour, and when I went in to apply for assistance (temporary - all I asked for was some sort of food stamps for the month until I could find full time work again), I was told I made too much money, too bad, so sad. Thank God I quickly found a full time job I love that pays me decent money.

I live in Wisconsin, which has made some serious efforts to get these lazy-ass creeps off of assistance, but I really can't understand how people like that guy qualify and every day I see families who are desperate for just an extra $10 a month to buy milk with that can't get food stamps.

I can't even be objective about this issue, it was terrifying to need help and not be able to get it, I'm just furious that this guy is able to mooch off society while holding down a job, collecting disability and going out to eat every day. For cripes' sake. 🙁
 
I hate it when I see these people with 20 kids(all dressed like crap) and the mother wearing all kinds of name brand clothing, jewelry, shoes, and whatever else pulling up to the bank in their nice new lexus or lincoln navigator to collect their WELLFARE check.

Thats bullsh!t. Why should I have to work my ass off everyday, not to mention pay for school just so some lazy ass ppl can have *&#$@ ^%&$#@

Plenty of millionaires & billionaires made their fortunes by manipulating & milking the system without doing anything truelly constructive, yet here we are complaining about some sod getting food stamps.

& this is just the way they want you to think, they are providing a scapegoat for you to vent on, while they keep milking the system for millions, without you noticing.

What do you know about our foodstamp system. It is the biggest load of bs in this country. I absolutely hate it. We are not talking about millionaires and billionaires. We aren't paying for their money. But for these lazy ass people getting food stamps that can get a good paying job we are paying for. And I don't think it is fair. We should at least get a tax cut since we are contributing to a "charity". I used to work in a grocery store and people would come through and buy over $400 dollars worth of food and pay for it all on food stamps. Take it out to their car and they are driving a big nice vehichle. It's just plain wrong and something have to been done about. And also correct me if I am wrong but didn't they get rid of food stamps. It's just a card now. Like a debit card. Or at least it is here in Kentucky.
 
I hate hearing about that stuff. Some jerk in one of my classes at school told me proudly that he's saving his financial aid checks to buy a laptop. Makes me sick to think that thousands of dollars that would otherwise go towards educating someone else is being wasted so selfishly.
 
Trust me Dabanshee when the smoke finally clears from the big high-tech rape-a-thon going on in the stock market over here, people will start to wake up to the point you speak of.

When taxes rolled around my Ex GF but GF at the time went to have her taxes at an accounting service provided by the city. She was told she owed a decent amount of money and asked a few questions about her situation. The woman who did her taxes then began to explain to her that all she had to do is go and have a couple of kids to ensure that she wouldnt owe anything in the future and that she would receive $1000.00 per child I think for up to 3 children, $3000.00? What kind of tax advice is this and if she told my GF that how many other people did she tell that arent intelligent enough to know how stupid that is.
 
Food stamps help a lot more folks who are "lazy ass, brand-name-wearing smucks." I really wouldn't be so quick to judge others until you've walked a mile in their shoes.

Do you want the alternative: kids without shoes and proper clothing running around begging for a dollar from you at every corner? Or do you think such a scenario is implausible?
 
No one is saying that some people dont need the help, I am saying there is obviously something wrong with the screening process when someone who doesnt need the help can get it so easily and someone who needs it desperately cannot.
 
Food stamps do help some people. In this scenario he probably bought them off someone else for next to nothing or maybe his parents are recieveing them and he happened to use a few of them.
 
I don't think restaurants take food stamps, unless we are talking about subway stamp cards 🙂
Anyways, it pisses the crap out of me when people abuse the system. I have seen people run their own businesses, buy nice cars, and still collect their wellfare checks. It's totally bizarre. People who make ten times more running their businesses still bothering to milk the government for a few hundred bucks.
 
SuperTool: Actually, restaraunts do take food stamps, for cold foods. Alot of disabled people cannot prepare their own food, so they need to buy it at restaraunts.

It seems that guys like you are always wanting to bitch about some poor welfare mom, but never say anything about corporate welfare.

The free enterprise system only seems to work one way in this country: charge all the market will bear, fvck the consumer, and if the company starts to go under, well, let's get our rich Uncle Sam to help us out. You can bet the conservative bastards that run some of these companies love to "spit" on welfare queens while they slop at the government troth.
 
I'mTyping, I didn't see where my post could be described as "wanting to bitch about some poor welfare mom," but as long as you want to spout the party lines.

It is the democrats that want to keep people poor and on welfare rather then give them a job and make them self sufficient. That is the voting base for the democrats.

Please explain why charging what the market will bear is bad. Then explain the laws of supply and demand and competition. Then explain why it is more efficient to give millions of people welfare or to assist a company to stay in business paying taxes and people working and paying taxes.

When you can do that, let's continue this discussion.
