Food science people: frozen food storage life and temperature

Is there a considerable difference in storage life of frozen food at the acceptable norm 0F and somewhat lower -10F?

Yes, I can't fully quantify it, but when I was a purchaser, we had to store expensive seafood in -10 degree tempatures for extended periods. 0 degree temps would after time begin to 'age' and change taste. It depends on how quickly you rotate through the stock.

My freezer will linger around -12 ish when I put it on coldest. Is it worth the extra wear and tear and power?

I do leave things in there for months.

I guess that would be contingent on what you were storing. If you are storing expensive steaks and seafood in quantity, and you want it to be just as flavorful when you get around to eating it, I'd say yea. If on the otherhand you are storing boxed fish sticks (extreme example but you get the point) then I'd say bah. . . why bother. . . .

You also gotta make sure it is wrapped properly, etc. But that is a whole different post. . . .

Yes, there is. However, at home it really would not make a huge difference unless the freezer is constantly opened and closed.

At the most I open it five to ten times a day. Sometimes it goes for days w/o being opened once. Basically I use it as a long term storage.

There is a supermarket that only sells buffalo meat once a year. I buy a lot and stays in the freezer for almost a year.
