Breakfast Cereals to Get More Expensive, Thanks to Climate Change

The price of popular breakfast cereals is set to soar over the next 15 years as a result of climate change, argues a new report from Oxfam International.

If left unchecked, the effects of climate change on basic crops—like rice, wheat, and corn—could drive up the cost of Kellogg's Frosted Flakes in the U.S. by up to 20 percent by 2030, according to Oxfam's analysis. Corn Flakes could also rise up to 30 percent in the U.S., and up to 44 percent in the UK, while the cost of General Mills' Kix cereal could go up by between 12 and 24 percent in the U.S. And that's on top of any other price increases due to inflation.

Even before "Climate Change" they shot the prices way up.
Now they are just getting better at finding excuses.

High corn prices have nothing to do at all with ethanol subsidies.... it is all global warming... I mean climate change.

I am going to buy many pounds of non GMO Steel cut oats and stash them instead of "investing" at .5 % at my local bank!

This is actually good news.

Simple carbs and animal dairy in the morning has destroyed the nation's health. Big Food shoved breakfast down our throats and got America addicted to carbs in the process.

Earth is helping us out.

Cereal is pretty much all sugar anyway. There is nothing healthy about having cereal for breakfast. So I say good riddance.

But, the price of the healthy food rising is a problem.

And corn has recently been genetically modified to better survive in harsher conditions, allowing it to be planted in regions it never could have grown in before, allowing for increased production even as climate changes.

But, the rest of the world believes GMO's create Frankenstein monsters, hence your super-expensive cereal.

That's why food prices are "soaring"! :)

Enjoy.

This is price gouging. It is not just climate related. $5 for a bag of chips is price gouging. I think there are more people on the dole than there are tax payers.

May as well raise the Min Wage.

Tell me again why we have the farm bill? It is certainly not keeping food prices down. Don't worry because food does not count for Inflation! Food is way over rated just starve to death.

78 pounds for a lamb dinner a rib eye steak the size of a man's hand and an old fashion was the price of dinner on the Thames in Greenwitch tonight. But times have changed and the English have learned to cook. The lamb and bits that went with it, in particular, was spectacular.

I wonder what will be the headline when El Nino arrives?

P.S. There are a lot of variables tugging at the price of a box of cereal. Go track the average American's purchasing power and tell me its all about climate change.
