If someone is a vegitarian on the grounds of animal cruelty, would they eat meat if it could be proven that the animal died of natural causes?

This came up in a conversation today ... made me curious.

If they want to stay consistent and not backpedal on the issue, then logically they should have no problems eating meat of that nature.

Not exactly on topic, but I read one article a long time ago about how these tree-huggers wanted to put little conduit pieces under some long trail in the eastern US, because too many snails were getting squished by hikers' boots. They never did explain how they were intending to teach the snails to use the conduit, however.
