Hey, I'm trying to put together the quietest possible case and power supply. The enermax whisper 330w sounds pretty good from its product description, but I also hear rave reviews about the Fong Kai cases. How does Fong Kai's antec p/s(300W?) compare to the enermax 330w in terms of quietness? Keep in mind that I plan to have the computer on in the same room where I sleep, so overall quietness is of paramont concern.

For the case I has just planning to take normal case and add some dynamat or simular material as well as some sound insulating foam. ...of this will come at additional cost and work, not to mention add several degrees to the case temp. Would a Fong Kai case be quieter? Should I just get the Fong Kai case and put up with its maybe inferior (to the enermax)power supply? How about a Fong Kai sold with a enermax, does it exist? BTW this will house a overclocked athlon or duron chip. Thanks!

Oh and pointers to good prices to Fong Kai cases would help too!

the Antec isn't the quietest. it's a really, really good powersupply non-the-less, and it's pretty easy to change the internal fan out for a Panaflo but I wouldn't suggest that unless you're comfortable working with potentially high voltages.

The only place I know of to get Fong Kais from is directron.com

The standard psu for Fong Kai is made by Enhance electronics, altogether solid/quiet, but it's not an Antec 300w unless you have a vendor who will supply one configured that way. The stock 300w Enhance in a Fong Kai FK320 should be entirely adequate unless you plan on a really loaded system. They are allegedly quiet, my personal experience with Enhance psu's does not include the 300w. The Enermax 330w is simply a cut above normal psu's, by all means get one if price is not an issue.

Once you have a free-flowing case,(like the FK320 or a SX-Antec) fan selection is the key to quiet systems. Quiet low power fans like panaflo L1A's yield sufficient airflow when the case restriction is low, and the Taisol HSF's are among the most quiet high performance AMD coolers.

Vibration-damping and sound-absorbing materials only help a little, nothing short of a hammer will kill the scream coming from a 38 cfm 60mm fan.....
