I was thinking it could be fun to do a thread about trying to fund a spring break trip entirely through poker. Let's say I put a deadline of Jan 1st 2007 to book.

How nice my spring break vacation is depends on how well I do at the tables. If I clean up, I'll probably go to Cancun; if I do OK, I'll go to Panama City; if I go broke, I stay home.

Cost for a week in Cancun all-inclusive with the flight is likely to cost me about $1300-$1400
Cost for a week in Panama city with a bus ride is likely to cost me about $700-$800

Start date is actually Oct. 10th, my starting bank roll was about $800. The initial bankroll obviously doesn't count towards the trip, I need to keep it for further playing anyway.

Date | Time played | Tables & type | Daily total | Grand total
Oct 10 | 2.5 hrs | 2 tables 0.5/1 | $19.20 | $19.20
Fighting the cards all day, not much to show for this session.

Oct 11 | 3 hrs | 2 tables 0.5/1 | ($33.20) | ($14.00)
Not a great start so far, still feeling a little rusty from not playing in 4 months

Oct 12 | 1.5 hrs | 2 tables 0.5/1 | $8.15 | ($5.85)

Oct 13 | 3 hrs | 1 table 0.5/1 | ($23.55) | ($29.40)
These .5/1 tables are killing me, play is way too loose and I can't establish an image or isolate players

Oct 14 | 3.5 hrs | Mixed 0.5/1 & 1/2 | $77.56 - $48.16
Finally a good day, my style is a much better fit for the 1/2 tables.

Oct 15 | 2.5 hrs | 1 table 1/2 | $110.10 | $158.26
Another good day, just a few days like this and I'll be sipping Pina Coladas in Cancun

Oct 17 | 2.5 hrs | 1 table 1/2 | ($74.83) | $83.43
Blah, awful day. Couldn't win a hand, and when I had something good I ran into monster hands.

Oct 18 | 4.5 hrs | 2 table 1/2 | $89.75 | $173.18

Oct 19 | 2 hrs | 2 table 1/2 | $22.25 | $195.43

Oct 20 | 1 hr | 1 table 1/2 | $49.50 | $244.93

Oct 21 | 1 hr | 3 tables 1/2 | $76.00 | $320.93

Oct 22 | 3 hr | 3 tables 1/2 | ($128.00) | $192.93
Ouch, tilted away a bunch of chips across three tables.

Oct 24 | 1 hr | 2 tables 1/2 | ($32.00) | $160.93

=======================================================
Total: 31 Hrs - $160.93

That's it so far :)

It's all limit 6-max. I don't usually play more tables because I'll usually be doing something else while I play poker. I don't treat it like a job, often I'm playing poker and doing homework or browsing the forums.

I could go through it faster by playing more tables, but frankly, I think I won't have too much trouble making my goal.

I have all the session info using pokertracker, but I don't think it's worth going into that kind of detail.

Just to give you a general idea, my stats after 11k hands of 6-max are
$VPIP: 27.22
PF Raise: 15.23
Total AF: 2.33

This includes some early sessions where I was more passive, I'd say that in most of my more recent sessions I have an AF between 3 and 6

I'm interested...and rooting for you, though I wouldn't necessarily suggest P.C., FL as a destination.

I believe it's his win/loss from each of the two tables.

edit: Maybe not, since he doesn't always play 2...

Yea, some sort of net daily profit/loss would be nice.

Just put:

10/20/06 -> +$76.00
10/21/06 -> -$32.50

Total -> +$43.50

I know I could figure it out from your posts, but at the bottom you should have a totals line -- number of hours played, total amount gained/lost, average gain/loss per hour. I'd guess that you'd be pretty close to making essentially the same as working a $10 per hour job somewhere....

I think he has that already, but his format is confusing.

"Oct 10 - 2.5 hrs - 2 tables 0.5/1 - $19.20 - $19.20

Oct 11 - 3 hrs - 2 tables 0.5/1 - ($33.20) - ($14.00)

Oct 12 - 1.5 hrs - 2 tables 0.5/1 - $8.15 - ($5.85)

Oct 13 - 3 hrs - 1 table 0.5/1 - ($23.55) - ($29.40)

Oct 14 - 3.5 hrs - Mixed 0.5/1 & 1/2 - $77.56 - $48.16 "

The first numer is the result from that play, negative numbers are in (). The second number is the total to date. Using the "-" through makes it confusing to me I took them for subtraction symbols at first.

Winnings/loss from current session and cumulative total.

OP, you're making $9.40 an hour playing poker. Get a job.

I'll pay you $12.50 an hour to do some light landscaping.

man you are grinding it out at 1/2 table?! i hate playing that low stakes because everyone chases everything because its so cheap. you should try a 4/8 table. just buy in with $100 and off you go. the pots will be more satisfying but you'll probably play a lot less hands.

As I said in my second post, I'm not doing this as a job, I'm usually doing something else while I play poker. I'm on ATOT or chatting, or reading a paper for my thesis or writing an assignment.

I could make more money more quickly if I 4 or 6 tabled and was concentrating exclusively on poker, but that's not the point. Also, I'm a full time grad student so I have neither the time, nor the interest to do your landscaping work. Besides, I can't think of any job that gives me the flexibility of playing poker as much or as little as I want and whenever I want.

Ameesh, my bankroll isn't big enough for 4/8, I like to keep at least 300 BBs in my bankroll to make sure I don't bust out.

I'm Canadian, so the new legislature doesn't affect me. I think that some sites (such as Pokerstars and Full Tilt) are basically ignoring (challenging?) the regulation. FWIW, I play on Pokerstars
