My son is going into the Marine Corps on July 16th. 0300. MCRD, San Diego. After 2 years of telling him to get a guaranteed follow-on school, he decides he wants Force Recon hence the 0300. Too many video games for that one and as he is 18, he has all the answers. I'm sure he'll realize he doesn't have all of the answers at about 4AM on July 17th.

Its your OPINION that it is a useless war. Stop acting like its a fact. Dont like it? Fine. Dont pretend its not a war.

In fact, I doubt he would mind if you just stopped posting. Every time there is a military thread, some smucks have to sound off with their anti-war/bush stance. Just stuff it already. Its not what people who serve want to hear. I just came back from 7 months away, and what I see is selfish people who dont have a clue. No offense intended. But if it stings, on well.

Were you talking to me? If so, Pot to Kettle.. etc. You do understand what that means, right?

I rarely, if ever, post anti-war/bush opinions, primarily because that isn't my stance. The reason I posted my opinion was because TallBill came off as if I was posting anti-war, anti-military drivel, which I wasn't.

The reality is that the people who serve are still citizens of this country. You are not afforded any special rights and privileges, you are not above me as an American, even though you want to think you are. If you don't want to hear your peer's opinions then don't read them. You're supposed to be standing up for our freedoms and rights, not attempting to stifle them. If I don't agree with you, and it stings, tough sh!t soldier. Now please enlighten me as to who were at war with. It's empty headed fools like you who give the rest of the servicemen a bad name. No offense intended, right?

I was considering joining up. But im gonna see what congress can do about getting our troops home.

I find it infuriating that both the House and Senate have approved a bill that Bush will ultimately veto. Hes on his own personal agenda.

ARE YOU DAINBRAMAGED? Who in their right mind would join the military in this current state of affi... oh, wait, you are! Good luck! The friends I made in the Air Force are some of my closest friends today. 5 out of 7 in my immediate family were in the military. My younger brother was sent over to the Middle East a few times and this spring will be graduating from college on their dime. I think it can be a great way to put life into perspective.

Death wish?

Only a fool would join the military in this time of oil wars.

Each year, an estimated 438,000 people in the United States die prematurely from smoking or exposure to secondhand smoke, and another 8.6 million have a serious illness caused by smoking.

A whopping what.. 1,000 or so American's died in the military in 2006?

Thats a nice way of making life seem so insignificant

Guys, please take the war debate somewhere else. Honestly, this isn't about the war, this is about my commitment to the military. I decided that the best thing for ME was to join right now, consequences be what they may. I feel like I'm doing my duty to help America, not because of any of the rhetoric about the war, or even because of the war itself. I'm doing this because it's what I need to do right now.

Thanks.

Now of course, don't let this deter you, the marines I talk to value this, because it trains you for later.

Hahaha...if they did that to me I'd laugh...that's so funny.....I know they're doing it for the "good of the cause" but....haha...just looks staged.

Good luck Dain!!!!

I suppose it's too late to join the Navy, huh? They gave me E3 right off the bat.

Anyway, good luck from one Dain to another.

Hope you don't get sent to IRAQ, but there must be some brain damage to volunteer for US military service at this point in time.

I'll ask a simple question. What to believe your life is worth dying for that this government proposes is valid?

I have two grandfathers that are WW2 vets and both of them think that young americans should join the military-they actually told us (my brother and myself) that the last thing to contemplate was joining the military-they said we'd only be supporting the us contractors.
