Folk Metal

There's several bands out there that do this kind of stuff and to me it sounds really cool. I love metal and i love folk music and merging them seems to work for me.

I don't know about the music, but falconry and buzkashi are pretty metal

I couldn't close some of those links fast enough. For me, metal and folk music sounds about as good as metal and rap....and that's not very good.

The only band I can tolerate that claims to be "folk metal" is Ensiferum.

Most folk metal is pretty silly and gimmicky to me, and the stuffed crossed with black metal is unlistenable, but Skyclad is awesome (and has some of metal's greatest lyrics).

can't stand 90% of those songs with the shit growly/screaming vocals. The instrumentals are good, but the vocals just ruin it.

ill admit i don't always like the growl but it can be done very well

I'm kind of ambivalent about metal in general. I respect and appreciate black and folk metal, and can listen a bit with genuine interest, but I don't find it enjoyable for long periods. It's just too loud, and too "much". I'm glad it exists.

Moonsorrow, while technically more "Viking Metal" is leagues above any of the bands mentioned so far. They are top notch songwriters.

This is my favorite song from their latest release. You have to dedicate a lot of time to listen to all they have to offer but I think it's well worth it.

was cool up until the vocals started then turned it off immediately. i don't get how people can like those kinds of vocals.
