Long story short but I built a new rig in December, E8500, EP45-UD3P and have been running the SMP client for some time now. I had a nasty run in with memory problems that Mushkin finally fixed by upgrading me to slower memory but at least they gave me 2 - 2 GB sticks.

I have a new case on the way with a bit more room than the current Solo and I thought perhaps I should fold on the GPU too once it is back up.

I game a good bit and shut off the SMP client when doing so. What is involved setting up the GPU and shutting it down for a short time?

This is XP Pro BTW

TIA

If you use the systray version of the GPU client, it is really easy to turn the client on, off or pause it. (I think turning it off for gaming is good because it frees up that precious video memory)

ATI cards don't get as high PPD as NVidia, but they are still formidable folders.

I vote......... GO FOR IT :D

There is a guide for setting up the GPU clients at The folding website that you can follow like a cookbook

I fold on my G92 8800GTS & 9600GSO currently, have a 9800GTX+ due for delivery today.

My spare bedroom averages 10F warmer than the rest of the house.

Now, if I could just figure out how to move that heat around...

I fold on an HD 4830 (IIRC I get 2400-3000 ppd).
I use the console client & most of the time it's fine, however occasionally when I shut it off for gaming it corrupts the WU logfile (can't remember proper name), so then it has to start over again :(, I'd guess this happens 1 in 8-10 times?? Maybe I'd be better off with the GUI client?

Oh btw, if I were you I'd stick with the Cat 8.12 drivers for it, Cat 9.1 drivers kept causing VPU recovery errors (think that was with XP only).
Too early to say yet how the Cat 9.2 drivers behave, although I'll be finding out real soon as I had to instal 9.2 to cure a driver corruption problem I had!
I'll let you know in a few days.

yeah... I was having serious problems on my main with Cat 9.1... the computer would reboot randomly... i was thinking my 4850 was fvcked. Was going on for a week. I switched back to 8.12 and everything was fine. I'm currently running 9.2 on my primary, secondary and tertiary computers... and a couple others.... the primary has been running for a day... the rest I put on this evening... i'll decide at the end of the week whether 9.2 is acceptable or not... but 9.1 is definately for the dogs... that one was a load of crap.
