I found it kinda funny looking at the work units being distributed to my boxes, my P3 got a 600 pointer (HTPC did as well) but my fastest boxes are working on mostly <200 point units.

Really starting to like that program FAH LogStats though.

When the client needs another WU it connects to the Assignment Server which looks at settings you have made, the performance fraction, the type of processor, etc. Then it assigns a server to send you a WU.

After many months of observing this process, this is what I think:
Stanford sets priority to all servers. The Assignment server uses the priority to assign WUs for X minutes per hour per server and just keeps going around and around to all the servers.

If the number of WUs on a server gets below a set number (seems like 200 usually) then the Assignment Server skips that server until more WUs are returned to it. When you return results, a new WU is then made from that. Each WU is a few nanoseconds of the fold.

The faster the WU is returned the faster the fold can be completed. Some high priority WUs are sent only to computers with a very high performance fraction.

I learned a lot by watching the server status page.

Your observations about WU assignments seem to be right on the money.

For all our new members (I'm really glad to see so many recently) it is important to know your points can vary wildly from one week to the next. I run these two computers 24/7 and have weeks ranging from 1628 points to 2498 showing at the EOC summary (last 7 weeks). It all depends upon the assignments made by the Stanford Servers.

I admit, I don't like this inconsistancy, but it is just the nature of the beast. Try not to let it drive you crazy (that slow week always seems to happen at the worst time)

Just remember it is happening to all folders and that helps.
